SSAFA Forces Help
Almost a quarter of the population is eligible for the support of SSAFA Forces Help. We are the leading military charity supporting the serving and Ex-Service members of the British Armed Forces and their families in times of need and suffering.
Supporting the Services
SSAFA Forces Help believes that those brave men and women serving their country should be given support and assistance if ever they need it. We have In-Service volunteers that support families new to the Services, run crèches, befriend wives when serving husbands are posted abroad and comfort the families of those who are injured or killed in conflict.
Supporting the Ex-Services
SSAFA Forces Help has the largest number of caseworkers in the UK. Our 7,000 trained volunteers are able to assess the needs of those that come to us for help and find support for them both financially and emotionally. This can range from finding the funds for a disabled ex-Service widow to purchase a new wheelchair to befriending someone who is lonely or isolated.
SSAFA Forces Help volunteers are the backbone of the Association and without them the charity would be unable to function. The following services are also provided by SSAFA Forces Help:
- A Confidential Support Line for Armed Serving Personnel and their families
- Two Stepping Stone Homes for women and children who become homeless following the breakdown of a Service marriage
- Holidays for children with special needs who are dependents of military personnel
- An adoption service for military personnel
- A Family Escort Service for families with transport problems travelling within the UK
- A care home on the Isle of Wight for ex-Service personnel
- Residential and disabled access housing for ex-Service personnel
