Samaritans

Samaritans provides confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide. Each year Samaritans receives over 5 million contacts, via telephone, email, letter, face to face meetings and text messaging service.

There are times in our lives when things get rough. Arguments with family and friends, business or money worries, exam stress, jobs and relationships can all make life really difficult. Often when life gets us down, we find it difficult to talk about how we are feeling.

The value of giving people the time and space to express themselves, where someone is guaranteed to listen without judgement is incredibly powerful. Samaritans offers the opportunity for people to express their feelings in confidence. By doing this we touch hundreds of thousands of people who call us for vital support, enabling them to regain control of their lives.

The chances are that most of us will experience depression or anxiety at some time in our life and in a society where people are alone more and more, Samaritans has never been more important. We believe that people are stronger together and only together with your help can we make a real difference. With your gift we can continue to provide a valuable service and improve the emotional health of the country.

"I desperately needed to talk to someone to support me through a very difficult period in my life. I don't think I would be here now if it wasn't for you. Thank you."
